Lilly Partnership in Diabetes Achievement Awards
The Lilly Partnership in Diabetes Achievement Awards are an annual recognition programme that celebrates the inspiring achievements of people of all ages who live with diabetes or who have contributed to the lives of others with diabetes. Those recognised do not have to be well known or famous for their achievements, they can be everyday people who have accomplished or are achieving outstanding things.
The 2008 award winners have been announced. They are:
Young Champion - Melissa Brown, Auckland
Diabetes Specialist Nurses - Rosalie Hornung, Auckland
Primary & Secondary Care Professionals - Bobi Munro & Totara Health, Hastings
Adult Achiever - Vicky and Alan Aitchison
Services to the diabetes community or to a national patient association - Taimalie Vaisun Robertson
2008 Grand Prize Winner - Rosalie Hornung, Diabetes Nurse Specialist, Starship, Auckland.

Eli Lilly Diabetes Specialists Research Award 2008
A panel of NZSSD members met recently to assess the applications for this year's award and after careful consideration of all the applications, the disappointing but unanimous decision was taken not to grant the award this year.
Eli Lilly and Company (NZ) Limited are committed to continuing to supporting research in New Zealand and applications for next year's award of $30,000 will open soon.
Eli Lilly Diabetes Nursing Research Award 2008
Sandra Rice, a Practice / Diabetes Nurse from Hamilton won this year's award for her qualitative research proposal "Observational study to identify the barriers and strengths of insulin for patients with Type 2 diabetes". Sandra will work with Research Fellow in Primary Care, Veronique Gibbons on this research.
