Welcome
Thank you for your attendance at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) this year held in our capital, Wellington, or virtually.
If you are not registered for the conference and want to attend the AGM virtually please email Ali@akb.nz before the meeting, to get access.
As you will be aware, the objectives of the New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes (NZSSD) are to promote the study of diabetes and the best standards of care of diabetes in New Zealand. We have been working to ensure the NZSSD is politically and clinically visible in accordance with our objectives and to confirm NZSSD as the body to provide national reference/subject matter expertise. New Zealand has a patchwork history of Maori, European, Pacific Island, Asian and other cultural influences and with a population of just over 5 million, is a melting pot of cultures. As a Society, we seek to reflect and advocate for the diverse health needs of all with diabetes.
We have had a surge of new members joining the Society and the Executive welcomes you. To our existing members, thank you for your ongoing membership and commitment to promoting best standards of care in New Zealand. Collectively, as a professional society of clinicians representing the variety of disciplines practising in diabetes care, we have huge potential to make a real difference to the lives of people with diabetes in New Zealand. Through our collegial relationships and joining up of services, we bridge many gaps across the care continuum as we strive to deliver care that promotes equitable outcomes for all.
As members of NZSSD, your ongoing involvement in clinical practice, advocating for best standards and research activities are essential to ensure that people living with diabetes receive the quality of care and positive health outcomes they deserve. On behalf of the Executive, and the ex officio members including Diabetes NZ, I want to thank you all for your energy and commitment. We welcome your input at the AGM.
