"Medication Updates: What's Been Happening in 2021"


This session will include three presentations: 


• Nurse Prescribing - An Update - Dr Helen Snell 
• Dulaglutide for Patients with Type 2 Diabetes - Dr Ryan Paul 
• Choice of ACE Inhibitors and Lipid-Lowering Agents in NZ For 2022? - Dr Paul Drury 


About the Speakers: 


Dr Helen Snell is a Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Leader of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Service at MidCentral District Health Board and is currently the President of NZSSD. Helen led the National Diabetes Nursing Knowledge and Skills Framework and also led the implementation of the registered nurse prescribing in diabetes health for the NZSSD in 2011, providing the platform for RN prescribing more broadly in New Zealand. Helen is an Academic Supervisor for the Massey University NP Training Programme and is an assessor on Nursing Council NZ panels for NP registration. 


Dr Ryan Paul is an academic endocrinologist at Waikato DHB who was recently awarded an HRC Foxley Fellowship for diabetes education for primary care. He is the President of the New Zealand Society of Endocrinology and an Executive Member of NZSSD. Ryan led the development of the national NZSSD guidance on the management of type 2 diabetes and was awarded the New Zealand Medical Council's Clinical Educator of the Year in 2019. 


Dr Paul Drury trained in the UK and was then Clinical Director of Auckland Diabetes Centre (ADHB) from 1994 until his retirement. Particular clinical interests are diabetic kidney disease, microvascular and microvascular complications and their prevention, particularly of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. He held multiple offices in NZSSD and was Chair of the National Diabetes Services Improvement Group 2010- 2015, then Clinical Advisor in Diabetes to MoH from 2015-2020.
