Dear Colleague,

Re: Gestational Diabetes Technical Report

The working party that developed the Gestational Diabetes Technical Report wish to acknowledge the contribution of the parties involved in the process. Enclosed is a copy of the finalised Technical Report. We would ask that your organisation consider this report and inform the working party if they are willing to be a signatory supporting it. The organisations named will then be added to the Report. The Working Party wish to acknowledge the feedback received following the circulation of the draft report at the end of 2006. This has been considered and incorporated where it is supported by current evidence.

It must also be noted that this report does not provide information around cost effectiveness. Therefore it is unable to make recommendations as to how the suggestions contained within it should be prioritised by different DHBs or whether other opportunities for health services might have to be forfeited should the recommendations in this report be followed. This was not the brief of the Working Party. By supporting this report, an organisation is declaring that these are reasonable and desirable recommendations but that any process of implementation will be influenced by economic considerations.

It is hoped that by your organisation signing off this Report that you will then also publicise it to your membership. Some members of the working party are also happy to present it at various forums to ensure it is utilised widely. We are planning to publish a summary of the outcome of the report in the New Zealand Medical Journal.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information/ clarification.

On behalf of the working party

Yours sincerely,

David Simmons, ADIPS
